Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya created history by becoming India’s first woman Director General of Police (DGP) in 2004. An IPS officer of the 1973 batch, she was known for her commitment to justice, especially in protecting women’s rights and tackling violent crimes.
During her tenure as the DGP of Uttarakhand, Bhattacharya focused on community policing, crime prevention, and improving the safety of women and children. She was instrumental in modernizing the state police and ensuring quick justice for crime victims.
