In a unique Delhi crime, a granddaughter talking about her grandmother getting a considerable amount of money led to blackmail, and a substantial amount from that money is yet to be recovered.
According to an article in NDTV, the incident began when the Class 9 student’s grandmother received approximately ₹80 lakh from a land deal into her account, which the granddaughter also had access to.
When the girl said this to one of her classmates, the news spread. A Class 10 student shared this with his brother, and the brother, in turn, shared this information with a friend of his. The friend then befriended the girl online and later threatened to share her morphed photos on the Internet unless she shared the money with them.
The girl had access to the bank account. She got scared and transferred the money in batches due to the blackmail. The elaborate scam included the student’s brother befriending the girl online. And here is where the shocking audacity of the crime and the criminal raises several questions.
According to the article, even after the girl transferred a whopping ₹80 Lakh, the teen still threatened her and even visited her at her coaching class, which finally led to the girl confiding in her tuition teacher and the final revelation being made.
₹80 Lakh is by no means a small amount and is the life savings of a majority of this generation. That a Class 10 student was not satisfied with this amount is as shocking as the manner in which the crime was committed. The Delhi crime was registered in December, and the Gurugram Police have now arrested six individuals.
