According to the FIR, he wanted money due to his son pursuing higher studies in America, and he had therefore broken his Fixed Deposit account and transferred the money in his savings account.

He accessed the ad, and was directed to download an ‘APK file’. The complainant claimed that once he downloaded the apk, a message about someone accessing the screen was displayed all through.

Finally, when he tried to make a payment via his credit card, it was declined for want of balance. That is when he realised that he had been duped, and an investigation is now ongoing.

This incident reiterates the fact that users should not download any app from unknown senders, and should only use the apps on Google Play, to ensure the safety and security of themselves, their financial details, and of course, their funds and investments.
