Man Allegedly Conned By ‘Bade Baba’ On Online Astrology App, Loses INR 12 Lakh

A Bandra youth has alleged that he was duped of nearly ₹12 Lakh by a ‘Bade Baba’, whom he came into contact with via an online astrology app. The long and detailed FIR is a study in how criminals try to, and do, take advantage of the vulnerable.

According to the FIR, the man had downloaded the app a while ago, but didn’t use it regularly until 2025. In 2025, when he finally did, a person from the app contacted him and convinced him that all the issues in his life could be solved with a ‘havan’, which would cost ₹6,300.

To convince him further, he introduced him to another individual, Bade Baba. The man got convinced and transferred the said amount, and that is when the con really unravelled.

Later, the Bade Baba convinced the man to transfer large chunks of money into his personal account and also said that while the ₹6,300 was the Baba’s consultancy fee, the actual ‘havan’ would cost more.

The man finally smelled a rat and refused to transfer any more money, and that’s when the Bade Baba started threatening the man, and also said that three other ascetics would die, along with the man.

Scared, the individual claims that he transferred money to the Bade Baba’s account via his credit card. Only when the Baba asked for more money did he ask his friends, who told him that he was being conned.

When the man filed a complaint with the app,  customer care outright refused any refund and said that they would pay the remaining amount for the ‘havan’ and give him three meditation sessions. This aspect of the information in the FIR raises the most questions.

When the man contacted the app with the issue, why didn’t they reveal to him that he had been conned? As the FIR states, why did they offer to pay the remaining money for the havan. Were the three meditation sessions worth a whopping ₹12 Lakh?
