Meerut Murder Memes Are Here, And Are Distasteful

Using humor to make peace with loss is something that victims do, but what’s unravelling on social media in the name of memes is just not right. The Meerut murder, where a woman and her boyfriend killed the woman’s husband and tried to dispose off his body by hiding it in a drum filled with cement has shocked the nation. It has also inspired some harebrained memes, which are disrespectul of the incident and tasteless.

We are not linking to those memes, because having an audience find them defeats the entire purpose of this article. Some social media users have begun memes feature the now infamous blue drum and talk about a particular person’s building skills. ABP Live has made a whole article about the blue drum memes.

It would be naive to think that fiction hasn’t used personal tragedy or even crime for humor content. Everyone has seen some scene where a character warns another character about impending doom by bringing to their attention a newspaper article about a shocking crime. But those scenes are very off-hand and don’t really speak about one particular crime.

The Meerut murder, meanwhile, is unravelling at a fast pace, with the victims, who are allegedly drug addicts, already facing withdrawal symptoms in prison. The naivette of the accused is for all to see, with them requesting the police officials to lodge them together – something that is unheard of in the history of crime and punishment.

The request shows how dependant the two are and were on each other, and also shows the absolute clueless the two are, when it comes to real life circumstances. We are sure, as the investigation progresses, there will be more shocking information coming out from either the investigators or even the court case that we will all be privy to pretty soon.
