In a disturbing case of Mumbai crime, jewellery worth ₹13.2 lakh has been reported stolen from the flat of a 90-year-old bedridden woman in Andheri West, Mumbai. The Amboli Police have registered a case under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and launched a probe. The theft, discovered by the victim’s family during a routine check, is suspected to have occurred over a two-month period. Domestic staff with access to the flat are now under investigation.
How the Mumbai Crime Happened
The crime came to light when the victim’s family filed a complaint at Amboli Police Station on June 4, 2025. The stolen items included a significant quantity of gold ornaments and designer jewellery, some of which held deep sentimental value. According to the FIR, the theft likely occurred between March 1 and May 31, 2025, at a residential flat in Silver Ananya Western Heights, JP Road, Four Bungalows, Andheri West.
The complainant, a working professional, explained that his 90-year-old mother is bedridden and under full-time care. The household employs multiple domestic workers, including nurses and housemaids, to assist the elderly woman and manage daily chores.
On March 1, the elderly woman’s birthday, the family adorned her with gold bangles, necklaces, and earrings to mark the occasion. Later that evening, family members removed the jewellery and stored it securely in a wooden locker inside a cupboard, locking it and placing the key in its usual place.
On May 31, the family was preparing to host guests when a family member went to retrieve the jewellery. To their horror, only one gold ring was found in the locker — the rest of the items were missing, exposing the Mumbai crime.
After three days of frantic searching within the house and checking with all domestic staff, the family concluded that the jewellery had been stolen. Since multiple workers had access to the room where the locker was kept, suspicion has fallen on an unknown person within this circle.
