Goregaon Man Scammed Of INR 60k+ in ATM Card Swap Scam

In a unique Mumbai crime, a man in Goregaon has lost approximately INR 60,000 after approaching an unknown man at a bank ATM to change his PIN. The crime occurred on SV Road in the Goregaon area, and the victim has now filed a complaint under various sections of the law.

According to the victim, he visited the ATM kiosk to change his PIN and approached an individual there for assistance. The man initiated the process, changed the PIN according to the victim’s wishes, and then informed him that the card wasn’t working, before throwing it in the dustbin.

The accused then gave the man another ATM card. During this interaction, the accused informed the victim that he worked at the bank as a peon, which may have helped the accused gain the victim’s confidence.

The victim didn’t suspect anything untoward for a few days, but he was shocked when he visited the bank a few days later and found that the debit card he had with him was not attached to his account. He also discovered that there were two transactions on his debit card, totalling approximately INR 60,000.

While one of the transactions was online, another was at a local shop. In this case, there is a chance that the culprit will soon be caught in the law’s dragnet if the store had a CCTV system in place.

However, it is never safe to contact anyone regarding an ATM card, regardless of the matter. We wouldn’t recommend asking for anyone’s help at the ATM kiosk to find out the balance on a particular account, let alone change the PIN.
