Living in a digital world is tricky enough, and one man claims that he was brutally attacked simply because he kept a song as his Whatsapp status – and the song had the woman’s name. The origin of this Mumbai crime began six months ago, when the man travelled to his hometown.
The man works as a painter in Mumbai, and his native place is in Uttar Pradesh. There, a family took issue with his Whatsapp status, and a woman’s name was in the song in the status. They confronted him and told him to delete the status and the song.
The man did so, but according to the FIR that he filed, his problems didn’t end there. Six months later, when he returned to Mumbai, he got a call from a member of the same family, who threatened him with dire consequences. Later, when the man was on his way to work, he was brutally attacked by a masked man.
The attack happened at Borivali Station in the morning, and according to the FIR, a sharp weapon was involved. The man was rushed to the hospital for first aid and was then shifted to another hospital in the vicinity for further treatment.
That the attack could have happened for such a trivial reason is shocking, but what is more surprising is that the attack occurred at about 10 AM in the morning, a time when the Borivli bridge is full of people – even children.
It must be noted that the person suspects that the attack happened because of the Whatsapp status rivalry, and whether that is the truth will be revealed during the police investigation. Also, it is unclear why the family took offense to the particular name and the song, and that is not shown in the FIR. It also remains to be seen whether the family and the man had any other ongoing issues between them and whether this status was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
