Two Men Duped Of ₹3 Lakh In Double Edged Online Fraud

Part of the Mumbai crime scene, online fraud is a common occurrence, and every company is raising awareness about the various types of fraud that can be committed. Now, this Mumbai crime report has a unique modus operandi for online fraud.

According to the complaint, two friends contacted an individual online who claimed to need a specific raw material to produce an animal vaccine. He required them to buy the raw material, which was available with a company with their head office in Arunachal Pradesh. The two friends pooled their money and paid a total of ₹3,00,000, with the confirmation that the raw material would reach their residence within a few days.

However, as time passed, the individual whom they met online revealed that he would not be able to come to India and instead told them to acquire more of the raw material. The victims became suspicious, and upon further investigation, they discovered that the company responsible for providing the raw material did not exist.

Of course, there are several red flags in this Mumbai crime, and a little bit of awareness could have saved the victims their hard-earned money. Initial information reveals that, although the company’s address is in Arunachal Pradesh, the bank where the money was transferred is located in Bareilly.  Secondly, the FIR mentions the name of the company and the alleged website, which is a classic example of how a scammer would operate.

The information is vague; there is no social media information, and all they have is some text, likely copied and pasted from elsewhere. It doesn’t end here; even the company’s website, allegedly based in the UK, appears boilerplate and lacks information about the company or any individual associated with it, and doesn’t have a single link to a social media presence. Upon reviewing both websites, it’s disheartening that two individuals were conned out of a significant amount, simply because the website was present.
