Woman Accuses Nephew Of Stealing Gold Worth INR 9 Lakh

A Mumbai crime sees a woman accuse her nephew of stealing gold jewellery that she had kept in her house. The woman claimed she had gold jewellery worth 9 Lakh in the house. She further testified that she locked it up in the steel cupboard in her home. The woman filed the case at the Dongri police station.

She decided to investigate and found that they were missing. She confronted her family members, including her husband and son, who were unaware of the disappearance. When she confronted her nephew, he first told her that he had sold the ornaments.

He later said that he had given the ornaments to a friend. Later, he said that he didn’t exactly remember what he had done with the ornaments. The woman proceeded to file a case against the young man.

This is a unique case, as we rarely see instances where a family member accuses another of theft and files a complaint. Of course, families do have disagreements and property disputes, but a theft case is relatively new.

Interestingly, the FIR states that the boy was unable to provide a proper answer when asked about the location of the jewellery. It remains to be seen whether the boy had an idea of the gravity of the crime that he would commit.

The woman filed the case under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code, which carries particularly stringent punishments. If convicted, the person faces up to seven years of imprisonment.
