Two-wheeler aggregators are becoming quite popular in India. With the fare just a fraction above what a rickshaw would charge, the young and the bold are opting for these aggregators. However, one particular Powai crime proves that the aggregator business has its teething problems as of yet.
A two-wheeler rider signed with an aggregator has alleged that his client refused to cancel the ride, and when confronted, hit him with an iron rod after having his accomplices get hold of him. The incident occurred at around 11 PM in the area.
This does spell trouble for the individual, as the police have booked a case under Section 352, which deals with causing grievous hurt. The act says:
Whoever assaults or uses criminal force on any person otherwise than on grave and sudden provocation given by that person, shall be punished with imprisonment of up to 3 months, or fine up to ₹500, or both.
While the initial charges are serious, the investigation could further delve into the information provided, that two other individual joined the attack. That itself could add some more weightage to the alleged crime.
Customers and aggregator drivers routinely cancel rides, and sometimes they cancel rides even after either of the individuals has reached the pickup point. This has been the bane of these aggregators. There have been instances where customers cancelling the ride ended up with the rider being slapped with a fine.
In this case, though, it is entirely possible that the man walking away without cancelling the ride would mean that the rider couldn’t book another customer for a while. This would create a scenario where the rider is stranded all night without any client to drop.

This blogger has had three two-wheeler aggregator rides, and the common gripe among all three was that customers have cancelled rides without prior intimation.
Meanwhile, what this current case turns into remains to be seen.
