A woman in Bhandup has filed charges against a man who she claims duped her of almost INR 4 Lakh, after making promising that he will marry her soon. According to the FIR filed, the man contacted the woman via a marriage portal, where the seeds of this Mumbai crime were sown.
The FIR says that the man and woman met a couple of times, and he hoodwinked her twice in buying products for him, including a second-hand Bajaj Dominar, a mobile phone and a second-hand four wheeler.
All the while, the man claimed that he would soon be getting money from Africa, from a deal that was struck but the money was yet to come. The man claimed that he had a mining business in Africa and a Subway franchise as well, while his uncle had a travel franchise.
The man also allegedly took a gold chain from the woman, saying that he would add some white gold to it and return it to her.
Further, the man claimed that his uncle was unwell, and he required immediate medical tests, and took another INR 1 Lakh from the woman. Prior to this, he had her make a credit card transaction of around INR 1 Lakh to buy a mobile phone, as the card had a cash-back component to it.
In a few days, he told the woman that he didn’t want to ride the two-wheeler any more and wanted to buy a four-wheeler. He sold the two-wheeler to the same dealer, and bought a four-wheeler, for which the woman gave around INR 40,000.
