Powai Man Claims Identity Theft, Multiple Fake Loans On His Name

Identity theft is a serious concern, and various authorities have been warning about the dangers of recklessly sharing personal data with others for a while. Now, the perils of identity theft have finally hit Indian shores, with a case of identity theft registered at the Powai police station. According to the man, the identity thief initiated multiple loans in his name.

How Identity Theft Came to Light

According to the man, he first received a call from a finance company, which informed him that he had taken a loan from them and had not paid the EMI. He claims that he has not taken any loan of this kind. When he checked his CIBIL score, he found that at least two loans had been taken out in his name. He also found that someone had carried out transactions on all three of his credit cards.

This is one of the first cases of identity theft used to take loans in India, and the details about how the crime took place have yet to be revealed fully. However, it is curious how this scam took place, as a person’s personal details are connected to the Aadhar and PAN card details, and all of these need multiple OTPs to be accessed, approved, and successful.
